The state of education in Bihar has been severely criticized for its low standards and existence of malpractices in the annual conduct of state board examination. He is the minister of education and law department of Bihar under which the subject of education comes. Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma has assumed the post of education minister of Bihar from 29 July 2018. He is a member of Janata Dal United party which is also the political party of Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar. He replaced Ashok Choudhary who was the education minister of Bihar from 20 November 2015 to July 2017.
Education Minister Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma has also assumed additional charge of social welfare department after Manju Verma’s resignation.

Literacy Rate in Bihar:
There has been some improvement in Bihar’s literacy rate in the last decade. According to the 2011 census, the literacy rate of Bihar was 61.80%. Wherein male literacy was 71.20% and female literacy was 51.50%.
There are a total of 17 state universities in Bihar providing higher learning avenues. Apart from these, Bihar also hosts one IIT and four central universities. It has a large number of other higher educational institutions like engineering colleges that provide higher education to students.
